Tattoo Age: Valerie Vargas Part II

Vice posted up the second part instalment of their coverage of Valerie Vargas today. Honestly, I think this is one of the best videos they have posted so far, it’s really great.

This week’s show takes a look further into Frith Street, and the relationship between all the guys there. The shop, which Valerie describes as a ‘boot camp’ for younger tattooers, has a really great set of artists in there and everyone seems full of life and energy. It’s really great to see more about this in this second instalment, too.

This week’s video also focuses on more of Valerie’s work, and on when she really started to get it together as a tattooer. The development of anyone’s work is always interesting, but to see someone go from being a good tattooer to a truly great one is even better. Valerie even talks about how it was when people first started to really notice her work and when she saw a strong waiting list develop.

One of the things which is really cool is just how likeable Valerie is. Not once does she act like a big shot when she’s talking about having a huge waiting list, and she’s always really honest about her influences. She seems like a very genuine person, and someone who you would really want to sit with for hours while she tattoos you!

Anyway, the video can be seen below, make sure you check it out!
